How our AI study tutor works, what it can and cannot do, and how we keep you safe.
Navigator is an AI-powered study tutor built into Meridian CPA Review. It uses a language model (Claude, made by Anthropic) to help you understand accounting concepts, work through practice problems, and clarify topics you find confusing. Navigator operates in two distinct modes, each with a different scope of access to your data.
The per-question Navigator lives inside individual practice questions, quiz items, and exam-simulation review screens. Click the compass icon on any question to open it. During active practice it gives hints without revealing answers; during review it walks through full explanations. It only sees the question you're working on plus topic-level performance summary statistics for that topic — it cannot see your scores from other sections or any data outside the current question's context.
Plan with Navigator is the cross-section study advisor, available at the dedicated coaching page in your dashboard (/dashboard/coaching). Unlike the per-question variant, Plan with Navigator can see your performance scores across every section, your scheduled exam dates, your discipline-section choice, and AICPA blueprint reference data. Use it for planning what to study next, prioritizing weak areas across sections, and deciding which exam to schedule first. It is currently in beta.
When you chat with Navigator, it receives context about the question you are working on (the question text, your answer, and the correct answer) along with your performance data for that topic (accuracy, questions attempted, mastery level). This helps it give relevant, personalized guidance.
Navigator does not remember previous conversations. Each time you open the chat, it starts fresh with no memory of past sessions. Conversation logs are stored securely for safety review purposes and are automatically deleted after 90 days. You cannot view past conversations and they are never loaded back into the AI.
