How our AI study tutor works, what it can and cannot do, and how we keep you safe.
What Navigator Is
Navigator is an AI-powered study tutor built into Meridian CPA Review. It uses a language model (Claude, made by Anthropic) to help you understand accounting concepts, work through practice problems, and clarify topics you find confusing. It operates in two modes: during practice, it gives hints without revealing answers; during review, it provides full explanations.
What Navigator Can Do

- ✓ Clarify why an answer is right or wrong
- ✓ Suggest related topics to review
- ✓ Help you understand authoritative standards (ASC, IRC, AU-C)
What Navigator Cannot Do
- ✗ Replace a licensed CPA or professional advisor
- ✗ Provide mental health support or counseling
- ✗ Guarantee you will pass the CPA exam
- ✗ Help with actual client work, tax returns, or assignments
- ✗ Provide legal, medical, or financial advice
- ✗ Access the internet or look up current information
What Data Navigator Uses
When you chat with Navigator, it receives context about the question you are working on (the question text, your answer, and the correct answer) along with your performance data for that topic (accuracy, questions attempted, mastery level). This helps it give relevant, personalized guidance.
Navigator does not remember previous conversations. Each time you open the chat, it starts fresh with no memory of past sessions. Conversation logs are stored securely for safety review purposes and are automatically deleted after 90 days. You cannot view past conversations and they are never loaded back into the AI.
How We Keep You Safe
- Crisis detection: If you express thoughts of self-harm or harming others, Navigator will pause the study conversation, provide crisis resources (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, Crisis Text Line), and our team is notified.
- Accuracy checking: Navigator automatically checks its responses against our question bank. If it contradicts our verified content, the response is corrected before you see it.
- Topic restriction: Navigator only discusses CPA exam content. It will not engage with off-topic requests, personal counseling, or non-exam subjects.
- No outcome predictions: Navigator will never tell you that you will pass or that you are ready for the exam. It focuses on your learning, not predictions.
- Input protection: Messages are scanned for manipulation attempts before being processed. Navigator cannot be tricked into adopting a different identity or revealing its internal configuration.
